A Tamil Language Course, NEW 213Y1 F - Introduction to Tamil, will be offered as a summer and fall 2006 courses. In addition, University of Toronto’s first Tamil Studies Course, NEW 217H - Tamil Studies in South Asia and the Diaspora, will also be offered in the summer of 2006. The summer course will be a full credit course (1 FCE), with approximately 4-6 hours of class time. 8-12 hours a week of class time can be expected for the Tamil language course due to its accelerated pace. This course is intended for students with little or no knowledge of written Tamil. It includes an intensive introduction to phonology and grammar; syntax of the modern Tamil language and emphasis on basic writing and reading.

NEW 217H - Tamil Studies in South Asia and the Diaspora (Time: Tuesday & Thursday 3-5)
NEW 217H - Tamil Studies in South Asia and the Diaspora, is an interdisciplinary approach that explains the complexity and multiplicity of Tamil culture. It offers a historical approach to the evolution of Tamil culture over the last twenty centuries.
